Which Bike To Ride;
This is, of course, a very personal choice. Some may like to have the comfort and the prestige of riding a big Harley tourer like the street glide or road glide, some might prefer a sport bike.
Look at the 'Do's and Dont's' page for my thoughts on choosing a bike, main thing is to think about your own capability and experience.
For me, with the experience of the Honda CTX1300, I have not chosen a large bike but a mid-size but with an engine capacity of 1746cc / 110ft-lb torque. It's the Harley Davidson Softail Heritage. It's similar to my XL1200T Sportster in many ways, bigger engine is the main thing, higher & larger handlebars, and platforms. I have ridden a Street Bob with a similar engine capacity and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. The other thing the Softail has is a 4.5 gallon teardrop tank, I wouldn't want to do a long ride like this with the Peanut tank on some of the Sportster or Iron models.
Browsing the Harley showroom in Cheltenham, UK, a few years back a salesman said to me "It's a great bike but that peanut tank holds less fuel than a gnats bladder" HAHAHAHAHAHA. He reckons you'd need to refuel every 70 miles or so.
I'll also be taking my 'Airhawk Comfort Seat', (See below} it's a long ride with some legs in excess of 300 miles but with frequent stops for the attractions and fuel.
Below that are some of the bikes we had on our tour.
You can browse the choice at Eagle Riders on their website. This page includes a summary of the specification.
